Part P notification, an Electrical Installation Certificate, and (on condition reports) coded observations the client may not understand. What Makes Electrical Quotes Different

1. Certification is part of the product The client isn't just buying cable and labour — they're buying the EIC or Minor Works Certificate that makes the work legal and sellable with the house. Put certification on the quote as its own visible line, even at £0. It's proof you're doing the job properly, and it separates you from the cheaper quote that's silent about it.

2. Part P: say who notifies Notifiable work (new circuits, consumer unit changes, most work in bathrooms) must be notified to building control. If you're registered with a competent person scheme (NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA), you self-certify — say so on the quote, by name and registration number. If you're not, the client pays building control fees, and that needs to be in writing before the job starts, not discovered after.

3. Old installations bite Rewire quotes are written before the walls are open. Undersized bonding, rotten rubber cable, DIY spurs feeding half the kitchen — you'll find something. The contingency note below handles it.

Burying certification in the small print Certification and notification are your professional edge over the cash-in-hand quote. Make them visible line items.

Quoting a rewire without saying who makes good Chasing walls makes mess. If your price includes filling chases but not skimming, say exactly that — "making good" disputes are the electrical trade's version of the scaffolding argument.

Silence on power-off time A family discovering on day two that the power is off for three more days is a one-star review waiting to happen. Put the outage in the quote.

Vague accessory specification "Fit sockets and switches" invites the client to imagine brushed steel while you priced white plastic. Name the range.
